There are many herbal brands out there. They have vibrant photos of plants and people looking overjoyed. Everything looks beautiful, promising, and hopeful. It makes you feel like this brand is finally going to be the one that helps you.
You buy the product. You take it consistently. You wait for the changes.
And after a month… nothing is different.
Sound familiar?
I've been there more times than I'd like to admit — and I know how discouraging that feeling can be. When you are trying to heal, you are not casually shopping. You are desperately searching for answers. You are looking for something that actually works.
My Personal Experience With Herbal Products
I started studying Ayurveda because something was wrong with me and no doctor could figure out why. It was disheartening, confusing, and deeply isolating.
Like many people on a healing journey, I was willing to try anything that might help me feel like myself again.
Once I graduated as a Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor and Clinical Herbalist, I began trying herbal blends from many popular companies. I understood the herbs, I knew their actions, and I knew which ones should theoretically support the imbalances I was experiencing.
So I searched for them, ordered them, and committed to taking them consistently.
But nothing changed.
At one point, I truly wondered if I had wasted years of my life and thousands of dollars studying something that was never going to help me get well.
Thankfully, I am a very stubborn person.
Instead of giving up, I decided to make my own herbal tinctures and see if anything would be different.
And it was. The difference was undeniable — and it completely changed how I understood herbal medicine.
The Problem With Many Commercial Herbal Tinctures
Most large herbal brands use glycerine as their primary extraction solvent. Glycerine is essentially vegetable oil and even more concerning, most commercial glycerine is derived from GMO corn or soy, the two ingredients many people intentionally avoid when trying to support their health.
Companies often choose glycerine for two main reasons:
- It has a naturally sweet taste that makes products more palatable
- It is significantly cheaper to produce at scale
While sweetness may improve taste, it does not improve effectiveness. And for many people struggling with chronic health issues, effectiveness is everything.
Why Herbal Extraction Method Matters
Herbs contain naturally occurring compounds called plant constituents. These compounds are what give herbs their therapeutic properties and allow them to support the body's natural processes.
Alcohol and water together are the only solvent combination capable of extracting the full spectrum of these constituents.
Here's what each method can extract:
Glycerine extracts:
- Carbohydrates
- Phenolics
- Terpenoids
Alcohol + water extracts:
- Carbohydrates
- Minerals
- Phenolics
- Terpenoids
- Berberine
- Water-soluble vitamins
- Alkaloids
- Lipids
This difference in extraction directly impacts potency. If the full range of constituents is not extracted, the plant cannot fully express its traditional function. This is likely why so many people try herbal products and feel nothing — it isn't that herbs don't work, it's that the preparation method prevented the plant from doing its job.
All Blaze Herbals tinctures are made using traditional alcohol and water extraction to ensure full-spectrum potency in every bottle. Browse our herbal tincture collection here.
Why Bitterness in Herbal Tinctures Is a Good Sign
One of the most common things I hear is: "Your tinctures taste strong."
And my response is always the same — they are supposed to.
Take my liver support tincture as an example. It contains bitter herbs, and bitterness is not a flaw in herbal medicine — it is a functional characteristic that signals the body to begin important digestive and detoxification processes.
Bitterness activates taste receptors on the tongue that communicate directly with the digestive system, supporting bile flow, digestive readiness, and liver function. When bitter herbs are sweetened with glycerine, this signaling process is diminished — and in many cases, the sweetness actively works against the purpose of the formula.
The bitter taste has been used traditionally for centuries to support:
- Digestive function and enzyme production
- Liver and gallbladder health
- Metabolic processes
- Detoxification and overall vitality
The Standard American Diet contains very little bitterness, so experiencing it can feel unfamiliar at first. But bitterness in an herbal tincture is a sign of potency — not a problem to be masked.
Small Batch Herbal Production: Why It Matters
Blaze Herbals will never sell out because everything is made in house, in small batches, by me.
There is no third-party interference in the herbal preparation process. I personally formulate and prepare every tincture to ensure 100% mathematical accuracy, proper ratios, and full-spectrum extraction. I have part-time helpers who assist with packaging and labeling, but every herbal preparation is completed by me.
This level of hands-on involvement ensures consistency, potency, and integrity in every bottle — something that is nearly impossible to maintain at mass production scale.
Scaling quickly often requires outsourcing formulation or altering extraction methods to increase profit margins. That is not something I am willing to compromise on. Blaze Herbals is founded on an uncompromising commitment to quality, no matter the cost or complexity.
All of our products are handcrafted in San Antonio, Texas, using sustainably sourced, non-GMO herbs — some even grown right here on my South Texas farm.
Why Blaze Herbals Exists
Blaze Herbals was created for people like me — people who are searching for real answers, who want to support their bodies using traditional methods that have been respected for generations, and who are ready for honesty instead of hype.
Herbalism is not a trend for me. It is a deeply personal practice rooted in observation, tradition, and respect for how the body works.
Blaze Herbals will always prioritize community, education, and product integrity over rapid expansion. Because real herbalism should never be diluted.
If Herbal Products Haven't Worked for You Before
You are not alone and it is likely not the herbs that failed you.
Many people assume herbal medicine doesn't work when in reality, the preparation method simply did not allow the plant to fully express its potential. Full-spectrum, alcohol-based extraction makes a real difference, and once you experience it, you'll understand why.
